Repair Café

We have started a regular Repair Café in Galway this year. I had hoped someone would start one in Galway , but as no one else was getting to it, I figured perhaps I could……. I asked a few people I knew if they would volunteer with me for a Repair Café for the Galway City Climate Festival September 2025. Angelica, Ellen and Suzanna joined me, and we had such a good time – we have decided to see if we can keep it going. Mary joined us for October, and Louise and Alec in November.

Repair cafés are volunteer led and community-centered. The Repair Café is staffed by skilled volunteers who share their skills with the community to keep items in use for longer and out of ‘land fill’. It is free of charge to the public. We are affiliated with repaircafe.org.

  • The Repair Café runs in Galway once a month, on a Saturday afternoon – follow us on instagram to get details on upcoming cafés @repair_cafe_galway
  • it’s a drop in arrangement,
  • so those who come first, will be introduced to a mender, and they will get assistance with a repair.
  • Ideally, it’s one repair at a time, so in the interest of fairness – if someone brings a heap of repairs, they will be assisted with the main repair and will have to ‘queue’ again if there are other people waiting.

Repair Cafés are as much about creating community as they are about mending, so people can sit in while waiting and watch other repairs and meet others.

We are hoping when we get a bigger space in April, that anyone who wants to just come down and stitch (whether this is knitting, crochet or embroidery etc) you can of course join us here also.

Please do come join us if you can. Or if you want to get involved, as a meet and greeter, or a mender please get in touch.
