Craft Meet Ups

Yarn Collective Galway currently meet in Carrolls (Dominick St) or Seven on Bridge Street on Wednesdays from about 7 -9, and we knit, crochet, and embroider. Both Seven Carrolls are nice pubs with good lighting, and serve food, and all welcome to join in!  Recently we have started meeting in Cafe Nero on Eyre Square as this was more central (and lighting better) – to check current meet up please go to the facebook page, these meet ups are casual and all are welcome – once a meeting is posted on facebook, just drop by

Sewing

In the past few years I have given beginner sewing classes, as well as upcycling workshops. These classes/workshops are based in Galway.

WORKSHOPS

Workshops are 2 hours (or more) and themed to simple sews and upcycling.

BEGINNERS SEWING CLASSES – SEWING FUNDAMENTALS

‘Sewing Fundamentals’ (basic sewing)  – The focus of these classes is to learn  basic sewing techniques by making sewing samples of each technique, and after the 4 classes, attendees should have the basic foundations and know how to sewing a simple bodice and skirt!

Class Content

Week 1

  • Hand Sewing – simple stitches
  • Threading a machine
  • Simple seams

Week 2

  • Facings
  • Bindings

Week 3

  • Insert a zip
  • Button and loop closure
  • Sewing Elastic in a waistband

Week 4

  • Reading a pattern
  • Cutting a pattern
  • Sew a simple pattern (half size block)
